** It's All About The Big Boy **

Wow this has been an exciting week. First Van decides to have his first pee pee in the potty on Sunday night, and then, last night another big move.

About 2 weeks ago we bought Van a "big boy bed", okay not really that big. Its a toddler bed, which means it actually looks like it belongs in a doll house somewhere. But anyways, we wanted to move him from his crib into a bed before his sister got here so he'd be ready to give up his crib without any problems. So we bought his bed, brought it home to assemble it, and 4 pieces of the wood were broken. I was so bummed. Most people who know me know I struggle with a crazy case of instant gratification, so imagine my freak out when we finally buy the bed, go to put it together and have to wait because its broken. Dang it. When we bought his bed, we did let Van pick out his new sheet set and he picked out a Thomas The Train set. So when we couldn't get his bed together we put his new pillow and pillowcase in his crib so he'd get used to the pillow and the idea of his bed. Well we had to call the manufacture and order the replacement parts for the bed but it took sooo long to get them, yes over two weeks. Yikes!! Finally they got here yesterday and of course I had to put the bed together right away. Then I nagged Mike a few times to take down his crib and move his new bed in his room. Mike had a good idea and waited until Van was in the bathtub that way he was out of the room and occupied. So he took down the crib, moved the new bed in his room, put on his new sheet set, and got it all ready for the big surprise. When Van got out of the tub, we asked him if he wanted to see the big surprise and he was very excited. He ran naked into his room, saw what he calls "Choo Choo" and went jumping on his bed. He was thrilled. It never even occurred to him that his crib was gone. We had to wrestle him out of the bed so we could put jammies on him because he wanted to lay in it so bad. We were so excited for him that we both decided to say his prayers with him, tuck him in, and relish the moment that our little guy was such a big boy. He listened to his music box like he does every night and went right to sleep. We checked in on him before we went to bed to make sure he was asleep and safe in his new bed and this is what we saw.

Our little man was sound asleep and slept through the entire night in his new bed. He woke up in the morning still so excited about it when Mike went in to get him. Even this afternoon, he couldn't wait to get home and get into his bed and it was 5 pm. He kept telling me "bye bye mommy night night" and I had to tell him that it wasn't time for bed. We were so worried that this would be a bad transition and so far it seems very smooth. We haven't tried his daily nap in the bed yet because we weren't home today, but hopefully this will go just as smoothly. We are so blessed to have this easy little boy for our first child and we can only pray that raising our daughter will be just as painless. Hope you enjoy this update, I'll let you know of any other "big boy" occurences.

Pee Pee In The Potty!!

We are very proud and excited to announce that Van had his 1st pee pee in the potty last night.

We bought him a little potty last summer and started working on the potty training thing when we found out about our little girl's pending arrival. Ideally, I'd love to have only 1 in diapers, yes I understand I may be a little delusional about the possibility of this actually happening. But, a mom can always be hopeful especially when you read about little ones potty trained by 18 months. So anyways, we started working on potty training, but when we moved houses we got really lazy. Its my fault really. Our condo had hardwood floors so if Van had an accident on the floors it was so easy to clean up but our new house has almost white carpet throughout the whole house so I have been a lot more tentative about letting him run around without a diaper. And I've justified not pushing it on him because of all of the big changes we've made on him the last couple of months. But Mike has been so good about asking him if he needed to go pee pee when he's naked and we do get a lot of yesses but last night he said yes and he said he wanted to go on his potty so Mike took him in there and just like a big boy, he went pee pee in his little toilet.

Yipee!!! We've been waiting so long for his first potty and are very hopeful that now that he knows what we want him to do while he's sitting there, it will happen more frequently. He has even told me multiple times today that he wanted to go pee pee on his toilet and would go sit there patiently but nothing more than a drop has come out. I still consider this progress. Before last night, it was almost a struggle to get him to sit there for longer than 2 seconds, now he just sits his little naked bottom down, points his pee pee down, and waits patiently for something to come out. Its all very sweet and I know that this is a huge step in the right direction. Of course, Van and mommy had to share a Hershey Kiss afterwards, just to relish the moment.

Well I hope you all enjoy this update. I should be back in a few days to give you another update.

My First Blog

Thank you everyone for stopping by to check out our new blog spot. I will try to keep everyone updated often. Its hard to keep everyone posted with all of the happenings of our family including Mike's job and sport of the month, my pregnancy, and all of Van's new and old antics so I'm hoping this will allow you to check in whenever you want. I will post new pictures as I get them but feel free to email me and let me know when I'm lagging. And, as soon as baby #2 arrives, you will be the first to get updates.

So let me start with where we are now. We are a very blessed family of 3, Mike, Van, and myself. Van is almost 2 years old and growing like a weed. He is so smart, its really just amazing. It seems like he learns 10 new things everyday. Even tonite in the tub he was showing us how he washes his hair, I mean he kept putting shampoo in his hand and then would rub his head. We never really showed him this, he just picked it up. He is also talking up a storm and tries to say everything we do. He has very good manners and has almost mastered please and thank you, we're very proud. Its so fun to watch him soak things up like a sponge. Currently, he can count to 20, say his ABC's and almost pick them all out by sight, spell his name, and name everyone in his family. Its crazy that they can really do anything we teach them, it just takes a little effort. He is such a blessing and we really hope he saved some of the cute genes and smart genes for his little sister. There is so much more pressure on little girls to be cute so hopefully Van didn't take all the good stuff.

Next I will tell you about our little girl who is soon to make her arrival. Officially her due date is March 21, 2008 (just 2 days after Van's 2nd birthday). But, we have been told it could be anywhere from March 8-22, so there is a big window there. We just had an ultrasound on Sunday to make sure all was well and our little girl weighed in at 3lbs 8oz. She seems to be doing great and is very active in my tummy. It seems like she always has the hiccups, which makes me laugh because I don't remember Van ever having them. In case you don't know, we have recently decided to change our little one's name. We started out with Paige Marie and were pretty set on it but have recently decided to change it to Ava Lynn. Mike and I were both having doubts and have just decided on the change officially tonite. Van is so good at saying Ava and he even tells us he loves her, well in his way which sounds more like "i uh uh ava". It's so cute and definitely one of the reasons I started leaning towards Ava. Well my next appointment with the doctor is February 4th and I will keep you all posted if anything interesting happens.

Lastly I will say Mike and I are happily enjoying our son and awaiting the arrival of our daughter. We feel very blessed with our life at the moment. We just had our 5 year wedding anniversary and coming up here in March, we will have been together for 9 years, that is 1/3 of both of our lives. It is hard to remember not being together. God has blessed us with so many things over the last 9 years, most of all eachother. Thank you to all of our friends and family for your continued love and support. I hope you enjoy reading all of our postings as much as I will enjoy writing them for you.

Love,

Becky
